Open call for BRF 2022 programme with 9 research grants

The 2022 edition of the Portugal-UK Bilateral Research Fund call for PhD researchers and PARSUK members is now open.


The BRF grant starts on 31 March to 29 April.


If you are a PhD, early career researcher and a member of PARSUK based at a research institution in Portugal or the UK you can apply as a Lead Applicant for one of the 9 grants we have available.


However, you must ensure that at least one of the Co-Investigators on your project is based in the partner country. That is, if the Lead Applicant is based at a Portuguese institution, then at least one Co-Investigator must be based at a UK institution, and vice versa.


Applications from research projects from all areas can be submitted.


Each grant is worth up to 3.000€.


Applications need to be submitted electronically using the online application form, until 5pm on 29 April 2022.


The programme is powered by the Science and Technology Foundation and the British Embassy - UK Science and Innovation Network.


In the 2021 edition, the following projects were funded:

  • "SMARTX - SMART materials transitions probed by X-ray diffraction", Engineering & Technology;

  • "Aspects of Everpresent Lambda Cosmology", Natural Sciences

  • "High-resolution 3D printing combined with biomimetic bioinks for the in vitro fabrication of vascularized bone", Medical & Health Sciences / Engineering & Technology;

  • "Source apportionment of air pollution by citizen behaviour", Natural Sciences.
