O valor da bolsa pode também ser usado para cobrir custos de investigação em pequena escala, como consumíveis de laboratório, licenças de software ou assistência na recolha e análise de dados. No entanto, não se espera que esses custos constituam mais de metade do valor da bolsa.
No entanto, o fundo não deve ser utilizado para adquirir equipamento, uma vez que é de esperar que as instituições de origem dos requerentes já o ofereçam, e também não pode ser utilizado para cobrir despesas gerais.

Funds should primarily be used to support travel, accommodation and subsistence costs associated with individual or group visits to Portugal (from researchers based in the United Kingdom) and/or the United Kingdom (for researchers based in Portugal).
The fund can also be used to cover small-scale research costs, such as laboratory consumables, software licenses, or assistance with data collection and analysis. It is expected, however, that such costs will not constitute the majority of the grant.
However, the fund should not be used to purchase equipment as it is expected that the applicants’ home institutions already provide this, neither can it be used to cover overheads.

PT: As candidaturas podem ser submetidas por investigadores sediados no Reino Unido ou em Portugal. Cada candidatura deve apresentar 1 (um) Candidato Principal e pelo menos 1 (um) Co-Investigador.
O Candidato Principal deverá ser um investigador em início de carreira sediado num instituto de investigação em Portugal ou no Reino Unido. O Candidato Principal deve possuir o grau de doutor e não deve possuir ainda uma posição académica permanente (por exemplo, Professor Auxiliar ou Lecturer). Contudo, deverá existir um contrato com a instituição de origem que exceda o tempo total de execução do projeto.
Cada candidatura deve incluir pelo menos um Co-Investigador baseado no país parceiro. O Co-Investigador pode ser um membro permanente do corpo da instituição/instituto de investigação, não tendo de cumprir o requisito de estar em início de carreira.
Podem ser incluídos na candidatura vários Co-Investigadores de ambos os países e de diferentes instituições. Each application must include at least one Co-Investigator who is based in the partner country. A Co-Investigator can be a permanent member of staff at a research institution, not having to comply with the requirement of being an early-career researcher.
Several Co-Investigators from both countries and multiple institutions can be added to the application. We particularly encourage applications for projects that actively involve other early-career researchers (e.g. PhD students, postdoctoral researchers).
